The work created for the gardens of Troja Château draws on the shifting ways in which different historical periods have related to invisible forces. Just as medieval cosmologies connected the earthly and celestial orders, contemporary infrastructural systems link human activity with geophysical processes. The object’s individual layers are based on technical drawings and diagrams from the early modern period, which, alongside instructions for constructing machines and inventions, reflect the visual models of contemporary thought and its attempts to capture what lay beyond human perception.

In Ungrounded, modernist paradigms enter into cyclical relationships with their contemporary reformulation, in which measurability, visualisation and technological exploitation are pushed to previously unimaginable scales—until they once again escape our control. A machine that has forgotten its original purpose frames the development of nineteenth-century industrialisation as a continuous material process.
